I’m doing something a bit different (and less serious) this week.
Just for fun, I’ve created an app concept.
I’m borrowing an idea from a wedding tradition of sprinkling the bride with good luck by giving them something old, something new, something borrowed, and something blue.
A big part of creativity is connecting together unrelated ideas. With all the material sitting on our computers, I think they could do a better job helping spark creative inspiration.
So I designed a little application called Something Old Something New!
This application sits in the macOS menu bar. When you click it, it launches:
Something Old: a random document/webpage in a random application (left side)
Something New: a new blank document in a random application (right side)
Now you’ve got some material from your ‘Something Old’ to create ‘Something New’!
And if you decide that you truly can’t think of anything to create using your ‘Something Old’ as inspiration, you can randomise the ‘Something Old’, ‘Something New’, or both, up to three times a day (this constraint is to force you to get out of your comfort zone).
What do you think? Ridiculous? Fun? Inspiring? Let me know.
