I have gotten a bit stuck over the last couple of weeks.
My original plan was to build on my last post, developing more animation concepts for my landing page.
But as I experimented with more ideas, I realised that the core experience of my website wasn’t yet clear. On what basis could I develop a landing page without it?
So I’ve been mulling over how to proceed.
Either, I continue with my original goal of building a website that celebrates the Rotis font with a bountiful archive of examples of where it has been used over the years, lest its impact on the world of design is forgotten.
Or, I pivot my approach and spend some time understanding user needs. I don’t know whether different people would be seeking different information from this website. I would be surprised if that wasn’t the case. And I think I need some user research to find out how those needs differ.
At the end of the day, this project is both a personal experiment in designing a digital archive, but it’s also intended for people to actually visit and enjoy.
So watch this space! I’m putting plans together and may be reaching out in the coming weeks and months.
And if you have any thoughts on where next to take this project, I’d really like to hear from you. I’ve already had some fascinating ideas from readers (e.g. make a map!).
For now, have a lovely week 😎
As this is a personal project of yours and a labour of love, I think your current approach is fine. Keep making updates based on what you feel is right, keep sharing the journey and growing the awareness. As the number of visitors increase, the analytics will give you a general idea of how people interact with the website and you can make changes accordingly based on feedback as well.
The approach to take a step back and assess the user needs is good as well, although it's what we already in our day jobs where we have an always on commercial-mindset to please the business. This project (for now) can be a great escape from that to be artistically creative.
